Starting salaries have increased in three Luzerne County human services departments under new collective bargaining agreements County Council unanimously approved Tuesday.

After hearing several citizen public comments for and against, seven of 11 Luzerne County Council members voted Tuesday to keep a proposed anti-discrimination ordinance on the table for further consideration.

Luzerne County Sheriff Brian M. Szumski has resigned, effective June 2, County Manager Romilda Crocamo informed County Council Tuesday.

Luzerne County Council may seek more say in staff compensation and the creation of new positions — a proposal that had been rejected in the past, according to Tuesday’s voting agenda.
