Regan Rome’s collegiate distance running career came to an end May 23 when the Providence College graduate student had to drop out of 10,000-kilometer run at the National Collegiate Athletic Association semifinals in Jacksonville, Fla.
Rome earned Division I All-American honors five times in her career between William & Mary and Providence and across the three sports seasons – cross country in the fall, indoor track in the winter and outdoor track in the spring.
As a William & Mary sophomore in 2016, Rome was seventh in the outdoor nationals in the 5,000-meter run. She placed sixth in the 10,000 run a year later at the same meet.
Rome missed competition for the 2017-18 school year with a pelvic stress fracture, but came back strong this season at Providence. She earned all-Big East cross country honors by finishing 11th in the conference meet.
During her final spring season, Rome qualified for NCAA Regionals in the 10,000 by running the race in 33:26.39 at the Stanford Invitational. She also finished eighth in the 5,000 at the Penn Relays.
DIVISION III NATIONALS
Misericordia University senior Clare Schoen and Cayle Spencer, a King’s College junior from Lake-Lehman, finished 12th and 17th at the NCAA Division III Nationals at Geneva, Ohio.
Schoen finished the 10,000-meter run in 37:13.77.
Spencer threw the javelin 38 meters (124-8).
CONFERENCE HONORS
Caroline Banas, Holy Redeemer graduate from Dallas, finished second in the Landmark Conference in the high jump as a junior at the University of Scranton.
