The Lake-Lehman field hockey team and both Dallas soccer teams reached District 2 championship games.

Lake-Lehman returned to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A tournament with its runner-up finish in field hockey.

The Dallas boys fell short of the state tournament when they lost in overtime in the Class 3A soccer championship game.

At presstime, the state tournament fate of the Dallas girls soccer team was still to be decided in Thursday’s Class 3A final at Abington Heights.

FIELD HOCKEY

Wyoming Seminary 2

Lake-Lehman 0

Kelsey Reznick and Alex Wesneski scored second-half goals and Wyoming Valley Conference champion Wyoming Seminary shut out Lake-Lehman for its first district title since 2011 in Wednesday’s Class A final at Crestwood.

Alicia Galasso made 13 saves for Lake-Lehman to try to hold off a Blue Knights team that had the advantage in shots while getting 13 penalty corner chances to just five by the Black Knights.

Wyoming Seminary ended Lake-Lehman’s shutout streak at nine.

The Black Knights will open their fourth straight state tournament Tuesday in a game against the District 3 runner-up at a District 3 site.

Crestwood 2

Dallas 1

Dallas fell one win short of the state tournament when the Mountaineers lost at Crestwood in the Oct. 26 Class 2A district semifinal.

Meghan Murphy scored her second goal of the game with eight minutes remaining to lift Crestwood to the win.

Hannah Yanovich had lifted Dallas into a tie by scoring 2:30 into the second half on an assist from Shannon Barrett.

Michael Ceklosky scored in overtime to lift host Crestwood to the Class 3A boys championship Wednesday night.

It was the second time in two weeks the Comets defeated the Mountaineers, 3-2, for a title. The teams had split regular season meetings while going 13-1 in Division 1 of the WVC, setting up an Oct. 19 playoff game that Crestwood won to claim the division championship.

Crestwood’s Sean Murphy scored with 1:30 left to force the overtime.

Nate Maransky had put Dallas ahead for the second time in the game, 2-1, with 15:40 remaining.

Beaudyn Lewis scored the game’s first goal for Dallas on a direct kick.

Abington Heights 1

Dallas held Lackawanna League Division 1 champion Abington Heights without a shot in the first half Monday at Keystone College on the way to the Class 3A semifinal win.

The Mountaineers took a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Zach Holthaus and Ricky Wooditch. Holthaus scored on an assist by Alex Solano and Wooditch scored on a penalty kicker after the Comets were called for a handball in the penalty area.

“We got the two we needed, then we settled back,” Dallas coach Chris Scharff told the Times Leader.

Abington Heights broke the shutout with 1:57 left.

Wyoming Valley West 2

Alison Francis had four goals and an assist to lead Dallas in Tuesday night’s Class 3A semifinal.

Francis had a hat trick in the first half when Dallas opened a 5-1 lead.

Holly Holthaus added two goals and two assists while Samantha Mazula had three assists for the Mountaineers.

Berwick 0

Amanda Ayers scored both goals, including the 100th of her career, to lead Lake-Lehman to the Class 2A semifinal win Oct. 28.

Emma Stroud made four saves for the shutout.

Mackenzie Love and Emily Smith had the assists.

Lake-Lehman 10

Meyers 0

Lake-Lehman opened a seven-goal halftime lead on visiting Meyers in the Oct. 26 Class 2A quarterfinal.

Mackenzie Love scored four goals and Madison Brdaric added two for the Black Knights.

Dallas 8

Coughlin 2

Alison Francis had a hat trick and two assists Oct. 26 when host Dallas began its playoff pursuit with an 8-2 quarterfinal rout.

Francis scored the game’s first two goals and completed her hat trick for a 5-1 lead with 10:43 left in the first half.

Samantha Mazula and Sydney Fulton added two goals each.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Nanticoke 3

Dallas 1

Jillian Baron had 21 kills Tuesday to lead defending champion Nanticoke past Dallas, 25-17, 25-15, 18-25, 25-17 in the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional semifinals.

Gianna Musto had 14 kills to lead Dallas.

“I’m proud of how our girls played all season and how far we’ve come in just three months,” Dallas coach Michael Shmakov told the Times Leader. “They played with a lot of heart and determination.”

Lake-Lehman 0

Defending champion Holy Redeemer swept visiting Lake-Lehman, 25-9, 25-4, 25-14, in Tuesday’s Class 2A semifinals.

Dallas 3

Shamokin 1

Dallas won the Class 3A Subregional quarterfinal Monday, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-16.

Lake-Lehman 3

Forest City 0

Fifth-seeded Lake-Lehman swept fourth-seeded Forest City, 25-16, 25-21, 25-22, in Monday’s Class 2A quarterfinal at Holy Redeemer.

Morgan Marchakitus had 10 kills, six digs and two aces to lead the Black Knights.

Lake-Lehman ran off 11 straight points to erase a 16-10 deficit in the second game.
