Brady Williams piled up the numbers offensively and Tyler Collins turned in an award-winning performance on defense.

Together, they led Misericordia University to the second-largest victory margin in the history of its football program and the Cougars did it while battling one of their local rivals with a 43-14 victory over visiting Wilkes University Sept. 23.

Williams excelled in his second career start at quarterback, combining for 392 yards and four touchdowns rushing and passing.

Collins earned ECAC North and Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week awards for his effort on a defense that did not allow a score after the game’s first three minutes.

Wilkes led, 14-6, in the second quarter, but Misericordia scored the game’s final 37 points.

Williams carried 24 times for 218 yards and two touchdowns to lead a 387-yard ground attack. The sophomore from Sterling, Va. also hit 16 of 25 passes for 174 yards and two more scores.

Collins, a senior safety from Mid Valley, led the team with 13 tackles, including eight solo, and broke up a pass. His interception at the 1 on the final play of the first half protected a 19-14 lead.

The only bigger win in Misericordia history came 35-0 over FDU-Florham in 2014.

Misericordia took a 1-2 record in the MAC and 1-3 overall into Saturday’s game at Stevenson University in Maryland.
