EXETER – Dallas had two of the top four individuals while placing second out of 14 teams Monday in the Tryba Preseason Golf Tournament for Wyoming Valley Conference schools at Fox Hill Country Club.

Mason Gattuso led the Mountaineers by shooting 73 to tie for second, one stroke behind Crestwood’s Mike Golden. Brett Ostroski was fourth with a 74.

Dallas, which won the title last year, joined team champion Crestwood in putting all four scoring golfers in the 70s. They combined for the tournament’s low five scores.

Crestwood edged Dallas, 299-304, for the championship. Teams use the best four scores out of six players.

Ethan Zawatski finished tied for ninth with a 78 for Dallas. Kyle McAndrew shot a 79.

Monday’s battle could be the first of many for the two teams.

They each went 9-1 to tie for first place in the WVC Class 3A-2 Division last season. Dallas then won the playoff that determined the WVC’s Class 3A representative in the District 2 championship match.

Holy Redeemer was third with 318.

Lake-Lehman’s Bobby Lugiano tied for sixth with a 76, including a 35 that was the third-best score in the field on the front nine. Tanner Henry’s 94 made him the only other Black Knight to break 100 as the team finished 11th with a score of 390.

Tunkhannock was seventh with a 342. Tyler Faux led the way with a 79 and Dylan Mislevy added an 81.
