Easter Egg Hunt today

DALLAS — Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department will hold a children’s Easter egg hunt from to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 25 at the fire hall, 329 Orange Road.

Children 12 and under are invited to hunt eggs, make crafts, enjoy snacks and, of course, spend time with the Easter Bunny.

Rain date is Saturday, March 31.

Holy Week services

LEHMAN TWP. — The Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church, 1011 Mountainview Dr., announces services for Holy Week.

Sunday, March 25, Palm Sunday: Services are Comtempory Service, 8:30 a.m.; Sunday School, 9:30 a.m.; regular Worship, 10:30 a.m.

Thursday, March 29: Communion, 7 p.m.

Good Friday, March 30: Tenebrae Service, 7 p.m.

Easter Sunday, April 1: Sunrise service, 6:30 a.m., followed by continental breakfast; regular worship will be at 10:30 a.m.

Fish fry planned

EXETER TWP. — Mount Zion Volunteer Fire Dept. will hold an old-fashioned fish fry from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 30 at 1394 Mt. Zion Road, Harding. Cost is $8 with children under 5 years of age eating free.

Easter egg hunt

EXETER TWP. — The Mount Zion Volunteer Fire Dept. will host its annual Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 31 at the township building, state Route 92. Four bicycles will be raffled and the Easter Bunny will make an appearance. Parents are asked to bring cameras. Rain date is Saturday, April 7.

Kunkle Fire Company events scheduled

DALLAS TWP. — The Kunkle Fire Company will host the following events during the month of April:

• All-You-Can-Eat-Breakfast Buffet from 8 a.m. to noon, Sunday, April 8, at the Kunkle Social Hall, 815 Kunkle Road. Admission is $10 for adults. Children 10 and young are admitted for $5.

• Eat Drink & Paint Benefit at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13, at the Kunkle Social Hall, 815 Kunkle Road. Admission is $45 per person and includes food, non-alcoholic beverages and all your painting supplies. Attendees must be 18 years old to attend and 21 or older to consume BYOB alcohol. • Delicious BBQ chicken halves served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out on Saturday, April 14. Cost is $6.50 per half chicken (no sides). The BBQ pit will operate across from the Kunkle Fire Station at Route 309 and Lake Catalpa Road. Drive in and pick up your first BBQ for the summer.

Night at the Races slated

DALLAS — The Dallas Lions Club will hold its annual Night at the Races on Saturday, April 14 at the Gate of Heaven Gym, Machell Avenue.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and post time is 7:15 p.m. Admission is $5 but is waived with the purchase of a horse for $10.

Spaghetti dinner

DALLAS — Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department is having a spaghetti dinner from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 15 at the fire hall, 329 Orange Road.

Menu includes spaghetti and meatballs with salad, rolls, dessert and a drink.

Cost is $9 per person, $4.50 for children ages 6-12 and free for children age 5 and under. Take-out meals are also available.

Fire departments sponsor Night at the Races

DALLAS — Franklin Township and Mt. Zion Bicentennial Volunteer Fire Departments are hosting their third annual Night at the Races on Saturday, April 28 at the Franklin Twp. Fire Hall, 329 Orange Road.

Cost is $10 per ticket which includes one horse, food, soda, water and beer. This is a 21 and over BYOB event.

There will also be instant bingo, raffles and other items to purchase throughout the night.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with the first race set for 6 p.m.

Yard sale vendors sought

JACKSON TWP. — Vendors are wanted for the Huntsville United Methodist Church Community Yard Sale on April 28. Price per spot is just $10. Call 570-477-3748 to reserve your spot. The church is located at 1223 Huntsville Road, Shavertown. Sale runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Plenty of homemade foods and lots of rummage.

Gardening Workshop

NANTICOKE — The Penn State Master Gardeners will hold their annual Spring into Gardening workshop fron 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 at Luzerne County Community College ‘s Educational Conference Center, 1333 S. Prospect St.

The program begins with keynote speaker Paul Epsom, local gardening expert who has been featured on WNEP’s Home and Backyard TV program.

Penn State Master Gardeners will also hold a plant sale and have information tables set up throughout the day to give attendees an opportunity to grab resources and talk directly with a Penn State Extension Master Gardener.

There will be workshops held throughout the day on a variety of topics, including Totally Veggies, Composting, Pesticide 101, Color All Season in the Perennial Bed, Basic Gardening, Common Landscape Mistakes and How to Avoid Them.
