DALLAS — More than 10,000 of America’s best and brightest high school students traveled to Texas to create, lead, and inspire as they competed for the opportunity to win more than $175,000 in cash awards.
The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference was held June 29-July 2 in San Antonio. Participants from across the United States and abroad attended to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and participate in more than 70 business and business-related competitive events.
Two students from Dallas High School received recognition for the following competitive event at the Awards of Excellence Program during the conference:
Raymond Perez and Caleb Sweitzer, both seniors, were recognized at the NLC for placing 1st in the Lifesmarts event for the entire nation. Both were also members of the Dallas High School Lifesmarts team that placed second at Nationals in Orlando, Florida, this year.
The award was part of a comprehensive national competitive events program sponsored by FBLA-PBL that recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. For many students, the competitive events are the capstone activity of their academic careers. In addition to competitions, students heard from a motivational speaker, attended workshops, and was able to network with the over 12,000 FBLA members in attendance.
Drew Lojewski, a current PA FBLA State Officer, was elected National Eastern Region Vice President at the conference. Voting delegates from all chapters in the entire region voted from the United States and foreign nationalities. Lojewski now has the opportunity to represent and serve the over 38,000 members in the entire Eastern Region of FBLA, from 11 states, United States territories, and all foreign FBLA chapters, including China, Tansania, Hungary, and Canada. He will work with the 2019-2020 National Officer team to serve the over 230,000 members in FBLA worldwide.
This is the first time someone from Pennsylvania has been elected for national office in two years, and it happened in the first year of the Dallas High School FBLA chapter being reactivated after being absent in FBLA for a few years.
Lojewski will have the opportunity to go to the National FBLA Headquarters in Reston, Virginia, in August to train with the new national officers for their respective positions and develop a National Program of Work (POW) for the upcoming year.
