DALLAS — Local sports enthusiast and former Dallas principal Robert Dolbear is celebrating his 100th birthday on Sunday, Dec. 6.

An open house given by his daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Bob Williams, will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Shavertown United Methodist Church.

Dolbear is a World War II veteran and was principal at the Dallas Sr. High School, retiring in 1978. He is responsible for the start of the Old Shoe rivalry between Dallas and Lake Lehman 67 years ago. Both teams have visited him at Greenbriar to hear the story of how it started. He still attends the Robert L. Dolbear Senior Girls All Star Baseball game played every June.

He is the proud grandfather of three grandsons, Jeff and Becky Miller, Shavertown; Brian and Catherine Miller, Fort Collins, Colorado; and Jonathan and Aubrey Dolbear of Philadelphia. He is also the proud great-grandfather of Logan, Joe and Brandon Miller, Shavertown; Nathaniel Miller, Colorado; and Lily Marie Dolbear of Philadelphia.

All are welcome to attend and help him celebrate his big day.
