Back Mountain resident Nicole Joanlanne joined Wyoming Seminary teammate Ella Krypel to win the championship of the District 2 Class 2A girls tennis doubles tournament Tuesday and Wednesday.

Joanlanne-Krypel won three times Tuesday at Kirby Park before moving to the Kingston Indoor Tennis Club for the final two rounds Wednesday. They lost just five games in the first eight sets.

The second-seeded team then knocked off top-seeded Brianna Pizzano-Bella Scappaticci from Wyoming Area, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, in the championship match.

Two Dallas teams and one from Tunkhannock won once before being eliminated.

The Dallas teams, Morgan Landau-Sarah Stallard and Reese Lewandowski-Caroline Stallard, each received preliminary round byes. They won one match but were knocked out by eventual semifinalists one round short of the quarterfinals.

Landau-Sarah Stallard defeated MMI Prep’s Emily Ankiewicz-Emily Ryan, 6-0, 6-0, before falling to fourth-seeded Camilla Rinaldi-Megan McDonald from Scranton Prep, 6-1, 6-4.

Lewandowski-Caroline Stallard defeated Honesdale’s Sydney Kordek-Ally Richards, 6-0, 6-2, then lost to third-seeded Tea Amerise-Cassie Benderavich from Holy Redeemer, 6-0, 6-2.

Tunkhannock’s Meghan Keiser-Ashley Kenia began in the preliminary round and posted a straight-set victory before also losing to Amerise-Benderavich.

Teammates Jillian Landon-Jenna Laughinghouse lost in their first match.
