KINGSTON TWP. — The Back Mountain Police Association kicked off its ninth annual “Warm Coats for Kids” drive outside Thomas’ Foodtown on Nov. 5.

The program typically collects over 500 coats and hundreds of hats, gloves, scarves and even snow pants for children from financially stressed households, said Ross Piazza, of the Back Mountain Police Association.

Donation can be made until Dec. 15 at drop-off containers placed at the following locations:

• Dallas School District, 2000 Conyngham Ave., Dallas Township;

• Thomas’ Foodtown, 1900 N. Memorial Hwy., Shavertown;

• The Rock Recreation Center, 340 Carverton Rd., Trucksville;

• Fuel On Citgo, 300 Memorial Hwy, Dallas;

• Newell’s New Mart, 1355 Memorial Hwy, Shavertown;

• Forty Fort Police Station, 1271 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort;

• Kingston Township Municipal Building, 180 E. Center St., Shavertown;

• Back Mountain Memorial Library, 96 Huntsville Rd., Dallas;

• Gerrity’s Supermarket, 552 Union St., Luzerne, and 2020 Wyoming Ave, Wyoming.

Piazza said the “Warm Coats for Kids” program is one of many charitable endeavors the Back Mountain Police Association hosts during the year. The association also holds the annual Kids’ Fishing Day at Frances Slocum State Park and established prescription drug drop-off receptacles at the Kingston Township and Forty Fort police departments.

The Back Mountain Police Association is compromised of 23 area police departments that range from Harveys Lake to Plymouth and West Pittston, as well as the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
