KINGSTON TWP. — Trucksville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company members Shawn Spencer, Arnold Brodhead and Brittany Harris were sworn in as Pennsylvania Special Fire Police on July 12.
“It is always a pleasure to see young people get involved,” Supervisor Chairman James Reino said. “We thank you for your time and effort.”
Special Fire Police have the authority to close roads and direct traffic during emergency situations, said Trucksville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company Chief Stephen Mathers.
In other news, a public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 9 to update sections of the Kingston Township Code of Ordinances. A meeting time was not announced.
“It will be advertised (in advance of the meeting),” Reino said.
The ordinance revision will affect Part 2 and 3 of Chapter 7 that relates to fire prevention and protection.
Also, Chapter 5, sections one, two, three, four, six, seven and eight will be updated, which will affect building, electrical, fire prevention, plumbing codes and code enforcement agent, existing structures code and mechanical code.
Reino said the township has not updated the codes “for a long time” and, since their adoption, laws were passed that “negate these areas” in the ordinance.
“For instances, several years ago, we approved the UCC (Uniform Construction Code ) that took the place of all the stuff that used to be in there so now there’s a conflict, and we have to take that out,” Reino said.
Also, supervisors agreed to use Kalinosky Landscaping Inc. of Wyoming for landscaping services for the Kingston Township administrative building grounds at a cost not to exceed $7,900.
The proposed landscaping involves replacing some of the large bushes that surround the building with smaller ones to reduce potential security threats.
The next supervisors meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 9 in the township administration building.
