WILKES-BARRE — Holy Redeemer High School will honor the late Abe Simon during a memorial Mass and blessing and dedication at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, in the school’s McCarthy Auditorium.

Simon, Holy Redeemer’s Vice Principal of Academic Affairs and former teacher and principal at Gate of Heaven School in Dallas, passed away unexpectedly last September.

The Holy Redeemer family undertook a project to honor him as an educator and U.S. Army veteran by replacing American flags in the school’s classrooms and hallways, as well as the large flag outside the school. In addition, the project installed lighting at the flagpole to illuminate the flag and allow it to fly at night.

Plaques honoring Simon were placed by each flag inside the school, and a memorial marker was placed by the flagpole. The marker will be blessed and dedicated immediately following the Mass.

Donations to the Abe Simon Memorial Project will also create scholarships and tuition assistance for students attending Holy Redeemer. All members of the community are invited to the Mass and dedication.
