LEHMAN TWP. — Penn State Extension will hold a Spring Orchard Meeting for commercial tree fruit growers on Tuesday, May 15.

Growers will be provided an in-season update on fruit production practices’ as will as speakers addressing topics such as tree diseases, pest management and more, according to a news release.

The Spring Orchard meeting is scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m. on May 15 at Heller Orchards, 54 Orchard St., Wapwallopen.

Heller’s Farm is celebrating its 99th anniversary. The farm is comprised of about 100 acres featuring apple, peach, cherry, pear and plum trees.

Speakers for the Spring Orchard Meeting are as follows:

• “Gearing Up to Manage Tree Fruit Diseases in 2018” with Dr. Kari Peter

This lecture will provide timely disease management tips for early season, potential summer issues, and updates to the Tree Fruit Production Guide.

• “Monitoring and Management for Insect and Mite Pests” with Dr. Greg Krawczyk

Krawczyk will discuss tools and techniques updates to monitor and manage insect pests while protecting beneficial insects.

• “Apple Thinning and Promoting Return Bloom” with Dr. Rob Crassweller

Growers will receive recommendations on apple crop load management and return bloom. Crassweller will also provide updates on orchard nutrition and weed control.
