WILKES-BARRE – Patrick McGrath became the first locally born player to appear in a regular-season game for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins when he played in two American Hockey League games with the team last season.
McGrath will be looking to add to that total after signing with the team.
The Penguins announced the signing of the 22-year-old Lake-Lehman graduate Wednesday. McGrath played the two AHL games last year under a professional tryout agreement while on recall from the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
McGrath, from Shavertown, was sixth in the ECHL in penalty minutes last season with 246. He had three goals and five assists in 59 games for his highest point production since playing with the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League’s Philadelphia Little Flyers in 2010-11.
