LEHMAN TWP. — The visiting Riverside Vikings dominated throughout Friday night’s game to seize a 49-7 road win over the Lake-Lehman Black Knights.

Riverside bounced back in a big way in this contest after dropping a tough 33-23 home decision to Lakeland last week to lose their first game of the season. Meanwhile, Lehman was flying high coming into this Week 4 matchup after crushing Northwest last week on the road 59-0 to earn its first win of their 2025 campaign.

Vikings coach Harry Armstrong was proud of his team’s quality effort in all phases of the game.

“It was paramount for us to get back on track for this,” Armstrong said. “Emotionally it’s always difficult handling a loss and it was a hard-fought game against Lakeland last week. But I felt our guys bounced back and really had a good week of practice which led to some guys really making plays out here today.

“I feel like we played with some intensity, energy and passion today and that’s something we are trying to do more of. And with that we took some broken plays and not-so-great plays into some great plays. That’s all about our guys hustling. Brayden Rose on some of our pass plays pulling it down and running it in the open field and our receivers getting some great blocks. So I’m just proud of our guys overall effort in a lot of different areas.”

Riverside got the scoring barrage started early, as Rose took the opening kickoff and exploded for a 90-yard touchdown return to give his team a 7-0 advantage just 14-seconds into the battle. Then at quarterback, Rose scored his second touchdown on the night, this time on a 10-yard scamper to increase his team’s lead to 14-0 with 4:33 remaining in the opening quarter.

The Knights would show some fight and got right back into this ball game when stalwart senior tailback Jaydon Skipalis pounded his way for a 32-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to one score at 14-7 with 6:42 before the half.

The Vikings ripped the momentum right back when Rose scored for a third time, this time on a 16-yard scramble to push his team’s advantage to 21-7 with 4:13 left in the half.

For the Vikings’ fourth and final score before the break, Rose scored for a fourth time, as he and his teammates immediately capitalized on a costly Knights turnover deep in their territory, as he barreled his way into the end zone from 20 yards out to up his squad’s lead to a robust 28-7 with 3:57 left in the second.

In the second half of play Riverside continued its scoring prowess, outscoring the Knights 21-0 in the game’s final 24-minutes. For the Vikings’ fifth touchdown of the night, Charlie Anstett sprinted to the end zone from 21 yards out to give his team a 35-7 lead with 6:38 remaining in the third.

For Riverside’s next score, Rose continued to dominate with his fifth touchdown of the festivities, this time a 4-yard rushing score to increase the lead to 42-7 with 3:53 left in the third.

To close things out, Camelo Barnett scored from 18-yards out to give his club a 49-7 advantage with 8:37 remaining in regulation, a nice 42-point cushion he and his mates would enjoy when the game’s final whistle sounded.

Now Armstrong and his 3-1 Vikings will look to continue their winning ways when they travel on the road next Thursday night to face off against Montrose.

Meanwhile, long-time Lake-Lehman coach Jerry Gilsky and his 1-3 team will look to bounce right back and find their winning formula once again when they travel to face Holy Redeemer next Saturday at Spartan Stadium.
