DALLAS TWP. — The Department of Occupational Therapy at Misericordia University is offering a free 12-week Support Group for Stroke Survivors beginning in January at John J. Passan Hall in the College of Health Sciences and Education to provide socialization and service support to stroke survivors.
The program is for people who have had a stroke within the last five years and have completed all formal rehabilitation services, including outpatient therapy and home health.
The weekly program begins Friday, Jan. 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. in Passan Hall room 109, and will be available to participants and family members on consecutive Fridays, with the exception of holidays and days the college is closed. The program runs through April 24. The program includes coffee and light refreshments.
Participants will meet with fellow stroke survivors, and faculty and students in the five-year Master of Science degree program in occupational therapy at Misericordia University. The support group also enables graduate students in the academic program to complete fieldwork and practice real-world clinical skills under the direction supervision of an occupational therapist.
For more information or to register for the support group, contact Dr. Jayne at cjayne@misericordia.edu or call 570-674-6740.
