DALLAS — The Back Mountain Memorial Library, 96 Huntsville Road, lists the following upcoming events:

It’s almost time for the Back Mountain Library Auction, The summer isn’t complete without a visit to the library’s major fundraiser. The 73rd Annual Auction features bidding on new goods and antiques, plus so much more. Auction-goers can also find raffle baskets, great food, the handmade quilt raffle, and children’s games and activities. Artist Sue Hand and her students will paint the lively scene and their artwork will be up for bid Sunday night.

Once again, there will be a free shuttle bus from Thomas’ Market in the Country Club Shopping Center on Route 309 to provide easy access to the library grounds, compliments of the G. Davis Bus Co.

Shop Artisans Row and many other booths selling jewelry, kitchen essentials, vintage linens and china, DVDs & CDs, home décor, plants, and, of course, books.

The dates for this year’s auction, “Always a Classic,” are Thursday through Sunday, July 11, 12, 13 and 14. Grounds open at 5 p.m. and bidding starts at 6:30 p.m. See you there!

Summer reading program

This year’s Summer Reading Program, “A Universe of Stories,” has blasted off and will continue through the summer to the “Splashdown!” final party on Aug. 22. The Luzerne County Dairy Court will visit the Children’s Room at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 25 to inform and entertain attendees about dairying and dairy products.

More Summer Reading events include a Build-a-Thon at the library on Saturday, June 29, where children can create using Keva planks, wooden blocks, and lots of imagination. And catch the County-wide Summer Quest Kickoff at the new Jewish Community Center. They will host the “ScienceTellers: Aliens Escape from Earth” show Thursday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m. Expect to have a stellar time. Call or stop in for more information, and to register. The new JCC is at 613 S.J. Strauss Lane in Kingston.

Early Readers Story Hour, for children who have just finished kindergarten or first grade starts Monday, June 24, and runs from 1 to 2 p.m. Attendees can hone their reading skills over the summer while having fun in a group setting.

New! A Summer Reading group for children who have just completed grades 2, 3, and 4 is Readers Theatre, which also starts Monday 24 and runs from 2 to 3 p.m.. Participants will read a story and then act it out, using imagination and improvisation to enter into the story. Both of these Story Hours run for six sessions through the summer.

Donuts and Discussion is a Summer Reading group aimed at ages 9 to 12. Copies of the first book, “Hello, Universe” by Erin Entrada Kelly, are available at the library. Come out Monday, June 24, from 6 to 7 p.m. and practice the art of book discussion with fellow readers. The second book, “A Long Way from Chicago” by Richard Peck, will be discussed on July 1st.

Teens and tweens can explore electrical connections in the Snap Circuits Pop-Up, Saturday, June 29, at 2 p.m. Ages 10 and up are welcome to join us for this STEM program. We’ll use electrical components to assemble various simple projects and learn the science behind them. Sign up for this interesting program.

The library will be closed Thursday, July 4 for Independence Day.

The eagerly-awaited Farmers Market will be back at the Dallas High School parking lot starting Saturday, July 6. Locally grown fruits, vegetables, baked goods, honey, jams, herbs, and more will be available for purchase. The Market benefits the Back Mountain Memorial Library.

Be a part of this year’s library auction by helping to set up the grounds. Ages 12 and up, students or adults, are welcome to volunteer. Dates are July 7-10; times are Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Keep in mind this is a great way to fulfill community service hours. Call the library to sign up.
