The Dallas team of John Toussaint-Alex DeRome overcame losing the first set of the semifinals to win twice Thursday and capture the District 2 Class 2A boys tennis doubles tournament title at Wyoming Valley Indoor in Kingston.

Toussaint-DeRome, the tournament’s top seed, defeated Wyoming Seminary’s Will Ziegler-Jerry Tang, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, in the championship match.

A year earlier, Ziegler had teamed with Duncan Lumina to knock out Toussaint-DeRome in the semifinals of the same tournament.

The championship doubles effort followed up a strong singles tournament in which DeRome finished second and Toussaint tied for third by reaching the semifinals.

As a doubles team, Toussaint-DeRome went 5-0 Wednesday and Thursday.

The only set they lost was the first of Thursday’s semifinal against Scranton Prep’s Matt Tressler-Harrison Oven. Toussaint-DeRome recovered to win, 3-6, 6-3 6-1.

Toussaint-DeRome, both juniors, advanced to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association doubles championships May 24-25 at the Hershey Racquet Club. They will open the tournament against District 7 champions Zach Alberts-John Watters from Quaker Valley.
