DALLAS TWP. — Misericordia University will hold a special gala celebration of the sciences to launch the institution’s largest campaign to support the construction of the Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Science Center.
The gala called “Discover Tomorrow Today” is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Beaumont Inn, 4437 Route 309.
The event will include cocktails, dinner and dancing to music by Exact Change, plus science-themed activities and auction.
Tickets are $250 per person, $500 per couple and $2,500 per table of 10. Tickets are available by contacting Marie Stolarick in University Advancement at 570-674-8201 or [email protected]. Tickets also may be purchased in Room 254 at Mercy Hall at Misericordia University, 301 Lake St.. The deadline for reservations is Aug. 15.

The deadline for advertising copy for the commemorative gala program is Aug. 7.
The “Discover Tomorrow Today” gala is the kick-off of the “Now for Tomorrow” campaign, a fundraising effort that supports the construction of the new Henry Science Center, and a significant investment to the annualfFund as well as an endowment for additional scholarships for students.
At the gala, the 2018 Misericordia University Founders Medal will be awarded to John C. Metz, executive chairperson of Metz Culinary Management, and posthumously to the late Frank M. Henry, the former chief executive officer of Martz Trailways, who passed away in June. Henry’s daughter, Marjorie Henry Marquart, a 1985 graduate of Misericordia and member of the board of trustees, will accept the award on her father’s behalf.
Mr. Henry made the lead gift to the “Now for Tomorrow” campaign, and the university will name the new facility in the family’s honor.
The Founders Medal, established by the university’s board of trustees in 2002 to recognize philanthropic gifts that transform Misericordia’s ability to serve its students and advance the mission of its founders, the Religious Sisters of Mercy.
Misericordia University Trustee Roger P. Howell, the chief executive officer of RATECentric and president of Howell Benefit Services Inc., serves as chair for the “Discover Tomorrow Today” gala.
Misericordia alumna Mary Hudack Erwine, Classes of 1990 and 1992 and president of Erwine Home Health and Hospice Inc., and Sandy Insalaco Sr., chairperson of US Hydrations, are the co-chairs of the “Now for Tomorrow” campaign.
The fundraising effort encompasses three university priorities: construction, equipment and furnishing for Henry Science Center; scholarship and programming endowment; and support of the Misericordia Annual Fund.
The gala will be the first of a month-long series of activities for the community in celebration of the sciences.
Additional, plans include speakers, children’s activities, science experiments, alumni panels and astronomy observations, such as a free presentation by Woodrow Wilson Fellow Robert Musil, president and chief executive officer of the Rachel Carson Council at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 in Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall at Misericordia University.
His talk will be the first in a series of speakers on global climate change being presented by the university’s College of Arts and Sciences.
