DALLAS TWP. – The Misericordia University Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society will host its fifth annual benefit poetry auction from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 22 in the Catherine Evans McGowan Room of the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library. The free event is in memory of the late Okla Elliott, Ph.D., assistant professor of English at Misericordia University, who passed away suddenly in March 2017.

To participate in the auction, poets read one or more poems and donate five cents for every word in each poem. Audience members who are moved by the composition are asked to match the poet’s donation. All proceeds from the event will go toward a travel scholarship for Misericordia students in Dr. Elliott’s memory.

Dr. Elliott was a well-respected professor, author and poet who joined the university faculty in 2015. His work appeared in national and international literary magazines and journals, including the Cincinnati Review, Harvard Review, The Literary Review, New York Quarterly and Prairie Schooner.

For more information about participating or attending the poetry auction, contact Patrick Hamilton, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the Department of English at Misericordia University, at phamilton@misericordia.edu or 570-674-8020.
