LEHMAN TWP. — Lehman-Jackson Elementary School students Everett Martin and Toby Hanson measured each other to see how much they had grown over the summer on the first day of school.

Lake-Lehman School District opened the doors of the Lake-Lehman Junior-Senior High School, Lehman-Jackson, Ross and Lake-Noxen elementary schools and welcomed nearly 2,000 students as the 2017-18 school year kicked off on Monday, Aug. 28.

Lehman-Jackson Elementary School, at 1237 Market St., had 380 students attend the first of school, said Principal Donald James.

“The first three days went very well,” James said Wednesday. “Most of our focus was on kindergarten students to make sure they had a smooth experience getting to their classrooms.”

The first day of school can be a day full of mixed emotions as older students are excited to reconnect with friends but first-time students may be nervous about being away from home for the first time.

“We have lots of teachers, aides and volunteers to help kindergarten students with the transition,” James said.

An open house is held in mid-August to give students an opportunity to tour the school, meet their teachers and prepare for the first day of school, he said.
