SHAVERTOWN —Brian Tupper, a Dallas High School graduate and lifetime resident of the Back Mountain, is campaigning for a Magistrate District Judge six-year term.
The 36-year-old will appear on both the Republican and Democratic ticket to replace his father, retiring Magistrate District Judge James E. Tupper (11-3-09) during the May 16 municipal primary election.
Tupper is running against Attorney Thomas Mosca and Attorney Gary Michak.
“Both parents were pivotal in my decision to run,” said Brian, son of Jim and Jill Tupper. “It is in my blood.”
The Shavertown resident, a classification analyst at Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Co, in Wilkes-Barre, holds a strong commitment to the region and pledges to work with local law enforcement officers to increase educational outreach programs for children.
“I’ve been raised to be honest and hard working,” he said. “I will be an honest and fair District Judge.”
Tupper completed a certification training course held by the Justified Judicial System of Pennsylvania to ensure he could meet the challenges and qualifications of a judge position.
“I was one out of nine (students) to pass the course and receive a certification from the Commonwealth,” he said of the four-week course held in June 2016 in the Judiciary building in Harrisburg. “You are required to take the course if you want to become a judge and don’t have a law degree.”
There, he learned how to handle claims under $12,000, landlord and tenant issues, traffic violations, preliminary hearings, issuing warrants, as well as many other legal matters he would be required to preside over as a Magisterial District Judge.
Tupper graduated magna cum laude from Misericordia University in Dallas with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.
He held positions at the State Correctional Institution in Jackson Township and the State Workers’ Insurance Fund in Scranton.
He is a member of the Dallas Days Bicentennial Committee and is assisting to organize the Gold Shield Gala.
Also, he is a member of Cross Creek Community Church in Trucksville and the George M. Dallas Masonic Lodge in Dallas.
Tupper and his wife, Chelsey Ann Coslett-Tupper, reside in Kingston Township.
