DALLAS — For just about every occasion, Darling and Sons Farms and Greenhouses has you covered.

Whether you’re looking to grow your garden, decorate for the holidays or get flowers for that special someone, the Darling family has it covered.

And with the great service and great products come the glitz and glamour of awards, as Darling and Sons picked up Best Locally Made/Grown Product at Best of the Back Mountain awards, held at the North Slope Brewing Company in Dallas.

“It never gets old,” said Joe Darling of Darling and Sons of the win, the farm’s 12th win in the category by Darling’s count. “We can’t thank our customers enough for the support all these years.”

The Darling family has owned their plot of land on Hildebrandt Road since 1930. Joe’s father Norman opened the business, and now Joe and his brother Norm Jr. have continued the legacy of excellence that has dated back all these years.

Darling and Sons specializes in a dazzling variety of flowers for all seasons, and the farm also sells fresh produce, all grown in-house.

“Everything is grown here,” Darling said. “Good, locally grown products at a cheap price.”

Darling said that business was pretty good throughout the year depsite the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly through the farm’s busy stretch from Easter through Memorial Day.

“The weather didn’t always help us out,” he said. “But it’s been okay, pretty good.”

Helping out on the farm with Darling are his two nephews and his own son, the next generation of Darlings to take to the farm opened all those years ago.

Things look pretty good for Darling and Sons to keep up their winning ways in the Best of the Back Mountain, and to add even more plaques to their already-packed trophy case.

The secret to all the success, according to Darling? It’s nothing too crazy.

“I think people enjoy our product and they enjoy their whole experience here,” he said. “You plant a seed, you get a whole new product out of it. … It’s pretty cool.”
