DALLAS — George J. Parrs of Dallas will display his beer stein collection at the Back Mountain Memorial Library throughout the month of January.

Parrs collected his beer steins in the year 1954 while overseas with the military.

“These were collected at Oktoberfest in Germany while I served in the U.S. Army,” Parrs said in a press release. He traveled through occupied Germany with a surveying team, staying at British barracks, French barracks, and German hotels.

Parrs sent his purchased steins home to his wife in the United States, who had been unable to accompany him overseas.

When asked about his favorite pieces in the collection, Parrs said, “They’re all kind of favorite pieces. The big steins are the ones that really come from the beer halls at Oktoberfest.”

Parrs said that the steins are “decorative items that the Germans used in their home places and were used for drinking their favorite beverage: beer or schnapps!”
