Under the direction of seasoned conductor, Matthew Rupcich, the center for adult and continuing education at Misericordia University, in collaboration with the department of fine arts, has announced the formation of the new Misericordia University community choir. The vocal ensemble is open to community members as well as all students, alumni, faculty and staff. The ensemble will be a mixed chorus of soprano, alto, tenor and bass singers performing repertoire from all periods, both a cappella and with chamber musicians. Rehearsals are 6 to 8:15 p.m., Thursdays, beginning Aug. 31, in the Maslow Ensemble Hall, Room 004 of Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall. There will be a final concert at the end of the semester as well as performances at events. Although no prior choral experience is required, appropriate placement in the ensemble will be determined at first rehearsal. Rupcich is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and holds a master’s degree in choral conducting from the University of Maryland. At the age of 17 he was the youngest person ever to be accepted to the Chicago Symphony Chorus.
