THROOP — Erin Belles and Allie Evans were the difference makers for Dallas on Wednesday.

Belles and Evans smacked back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning of Dallas’ 7-5 win over Abington Heights, breaking a 5-5 tie and sealing the Mountaineers District 2 Class 3A Championship.

Dallas will play the winner of the District 4 championship — either Milton or Jersey Shore — in the first round of the PIAA playoffs. The District 4 championship will be decided Thursday. The first round of the PIAA playoffs begins June 2.

Abington Heights led 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning, but Dallas scored five runs to take their first lead of the game. Abington Heights struck back in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs of their own to tie the game, 5-5, and send it into extra innings.

A scoreless eighth inning set up Belles and Evans in the ninth. Evans was also the winning pitcher for Dallas, striking out 10 batters. Dallas had 11 hits in the game.
