DALLAS — Wilkes-Barre Strong, a project team of the Leadership Wilkes-Barre Class of 2015, participated in the Back Mountain Chamber Expo held at Misericordia University on April 14.
The group promoted its project, the construction of a pavilion at Wilkes-Barre’s Coal Street Park, at the April event which brings the community together with local businesses and organizations.
The 31-acre park has undergone a major transformation in the last few years with the construction of new basketball courts, all-purpose fields and other public recreational amenities. The pavilion’s construction is the final stage in the Coal Street Park redevelopment plan. It will provide community members with a sheltered area to enjoy picnics, birthday parties, and other events.
What’s more, the pavilion will offer a protected area for children to enjoy summer lunches. Since its opening, Coal Street Park has been home to the Food 4 Kids Summer Program, an initiative supported by the Commission on Economic Opportunity that provides meals to kids during the summer months.
