URZEN NAMED TO DEAN’S LIST
Ryan Albert Urzen , a 2009 graduate of Dallas High School, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester 2013 at Penn State University.
Urzen received a bachelor of science degree in physiology in May 2013 and graduated with honors with distinction.
He is the son of Albert Urzen, of Swoyersville and Karen Urzen, of Carbondale.
WEINSTOCK ON DEAN’S LIST
Jeremy Weinstock, son of Sid and Inez Weinstock, of Dallas, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 term at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He is a graduate of Wilkes University and of Dallas High School.
FITZGERALD RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP
Gabrielle Fitzgerald, of Dallas, has been awarded a half-tuition merit scholarship to Wyoming Seminary Lower School. She is a seventh-grade student.
Recipients are chosen on the basis of their performance on a competitive exam and interviews.
VANDERVEKEN ON WINNING TEAM
Rebecca Vanderveken, of Shavertown, was among nursing students from Luzerne County Community College who took first place in the 10th Annual Student Nurse Challenge held recently at East Stroudsburg University.
The Student Nurse Challenge is based on the College Bowl Program and includes participating students from the Student Nurse Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) Northeast Region, which represents 10 institutions of higher learning.
The LCCC team went on to participate in the Student Nurse Challenge Super Bowl also held at East Stroudsburg where it finished second.
FOUR PARTICIPATE IN UPWARD BOUND
Among 48 Luzerne County high school students who spent their summer preparing for college as part of the 46th annual Upward Bound Program at Wilkes University are Brooke Blankenship, Amanda Blankenship and Leila Christofferson, all of Tunkhannock Area; and Courtney Carey, of Lake-Lehman.
During the six-week residential experience, students received intensive academic preparation, explored potential careers, participated in personal development experiences and attended educational field trips.
MONAGHAN RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP
Kelly Monaghan, of Dallas, has received the Highmark Scholarship from Shippensburg University.
A 2012 graduate of Dallas High School, she is a sophomore at Shippensburg majoring in biology.
ZAPOTICKY RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP
Ryan Zapoticky, of Dallas, has received the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Baord of Governors’ Scholarship and the Highmark Scholarship at Shippensburg University.
A 2013 graduate of Dallas High School, he will major in biology.
