Dallas grad Greg Manusky’s defense leads Redskins past Raiders

Dallas graduate Greg Manusky drew widespread praise during and after the performance of his Washington Redskins defense in a 27-10 victory over the Oakland Raiders Sept. 24.

Manusky, in his first season as defensive coordinator, was responsible for the unit that held Oakland to 128 yards total offense, the fewest allowed by a Redskins defense in 25 years.

The defense combined with a strong performance by quarterback Kirk Cousins to help the Redskins hand the Raiders their first loss of the National Football League season. Manusky’s efforts were a constant topic on the NBC Sunday Night Football broadcast and his efforts were lauded by various media outlets and NFL analysts in the aftermath of the win.

“I think it was a good a defensive performance that I’ve seen in a long time by anybody,” Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said, according to a story on redskins.com. “ … 0-for-11 on third downs. I mean, it’s a great tribune to coach Manusky and the staff, but the players were executing.”

Oakland managed just 32 yards rushing and 96 net yards passing.

Through three weeks, the Redskins defense ranks among the best in the 32-team NFL statistically.

Washington was tied for first in fewest first downs allowed (40), second in rushing yards allowed (62.3 per game), fourth in takeaways (seven) and seventh in points allowed (52).
