ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
(for week ending Sept. 24, 2017)
Jade Fry
School: Lake-Lehman
Year: Senior
Sport/position: Cross country
Family: Chris, dad; Pam, mom; Tristan, brother.
Last week: Fry has placed first in every Wyoming Valley Conference meet this season. In the Sept. 20 meet, Fry placed first individually, completing her home, 3.1-mile course in 20:53 to help Lake-Lehman win a battle of unbeatens from Holy Redeemer, 23-34, while also beating Hanover Area, 21-39, and Meyers, 15-50.
What she says: “The season is going really well so far. Last year, I had to take a whole month off because of a hip injury. So far this season, I’ve been lucky enough to place first in all of the league meets and, in addition, I have medaled at the Cliff Robbins Invitational and, for the first time ever, at the Kutztown Invitational. My team and everyone involved are very supportive of everything I do. … I like to be a positive role model for the younger team members and encourage them.”
Coach says: “It is a pleasure to coach Jade. She is now a senior, but I’ve known her since seventh grade. She has performed well since junior high and has really taken it to the next level. I believe that her talent, work ethic and attention to detail will make her one of the best at districts this year. Jade was expecting a season like this last year before her injury, and now she has paid her dues. She has focused a lot on her diet and weight training.” — Lake-Lehman Head Coach John Sobocinski
