Recently 4 Webelos Scouts from Cub Pack 693, Harveys Lake, graduated into Boy Scout Troop 693 at their annual Blue & Gold Dinner. The boys will now enjoy more adventurous activities such as repelling, back packing, caving and low impact camping. Graduates are: Garrett Engle, Ryan Besteder, Joshua Scanlan and Brian Lazur.
The staff of the Back Mountain Memorial Library entertained at a Volunteer Tea last month in the community room at the library in appreciation of the “circulation volunteers.” These are the people who help with returned library materials. Attendees included Mary Ann Sigworth, June Jones, Mae Rome, Elda Oleson, Fran Cowett, Jean Rodda, Ann Jordan, Rosemary Dilione, Diane Wasilewski, Jane Swire, Marilyn Rudolph, children’s librarian, Nancy Kozemchak, business manager and Martha Butler, librarian.

Ten Gate of Heaven sixth, seventh and eighth grade students, accompanied by faculty members Debbie Wysocki and Abe Simon, spent May 12 in Harrisburg at the capitol where they received the Governor’s Energy Education Award for the projects they entered in the program. Attendees were: John Gilgallon, Keith Jones, Tony Finarelli, Jeff Malak, Robin Latosek, Marlo Sholtis, Susanne Stair, Carrie Reid, Virginia Johnson and Gregory Stahovec.
Seven-year-old Lizzie Lord and her dad, Al Lord, found a balloon on Follies Road in Huntsville last Thursday. The balloon, according to a tag attached to it, came all the way from the Inner City Angels, Santa Maria Catholic School, Scadding House in Toronto, Canada.
In observance of National Library Week, children of the Trinity Nursery School, Dallas, presented the book, “This Time Tempe Wick?” by Patricia Lee Gauch to the Back Mountain Memorial Library. Marilyn Rudolph, children’s librarian, accepted the book from Justin Ash, Laura Norris, Devin Lewis, D.J. Kapson and Carrie Strasser.
40 YEARS AGO —1977
Employees of Offset paperback received a plaque last week from the Physical Fitness Institute of America in recognition of their efforts to improve physically through the organization’s programs. The program was designed for cardio-vascular fitness, muscle flexibility and strength, percentage loss of body fat and blood pressure. Some of the employees who took part in the program are Richard Chintala, Tony D’Agrosa, Jim Mathias, Denny Eaton, Don Weidner, Stanley Mruk, John Loyack, Bob Letts and Bob Stull.
Harveys Lake Rod & Gun Club met at the clubhouse last month, accepting 14 new members. The following served the six month probationary period to become full members: Martin Ansetee, John A. Booth, Vic Gaj, Daniel G. Hometchko, William
Jeffrey, W.B. Jones, Peter Kerdesky, Harry Montross, John J. Salinsky, Robert Savage, Jerry Schutz, Jr., John B. VanHorn, Joseph Yatsko and George Yatsko.

Keller Group of the WSCS of Shavertown Methodist Church is planning a Mother-Daughter Tea. A Mother’s Day program is being planned with the following participating: Helen Bowser, Rachel and Sally Porter, Eleanor Jones and Betty Rogers.
Plans are being furthered for the dedication dinner-dance to be held on Sunday in conjunction with the completion of the new social hall at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Lake Silkworth. Rev. Frank A. Barlik, pastor, is honorary chairman of the affair and Edward F. Mark is general chairman.
Annual Pinewood Derby was held recently Cub Scouts, Pack 155 of Trucksville, in the Trucksville Methodist Church. Championship was won by Bob Lewis, Den 1, second place by Eddie Johnson, Den 2, third place by Jack Truscott, Den 7.

Air Explorer Squadron No. 151 enjoyed en overnight camping trip Friday and Saturday at Hellersperk’s Woods, recently given as a permanent campsite for the squadron by Stefan Hellersperk. Although the weather was cold overnight and Saturday produced rain and snow, the boys cleaned an area for a bonfire and prepared the grounds for future camping. Among those taking part in the trip were: William Hall, Blair Haddle, John Savickas, James Bradbury, Gerald Richards, James Barstow, Lynn Deitz, Richard Besteeder, Charles Condon, George Isaacs, Leslie Barstow and Leslie Barstow, Sr.
Five Back Mountain girls were among the fifty-eight student nurses who received their pins and diplomas from General Hospital School of Nursing Thursday evening in an impressive candle-light ceremony. Entitled to wear the white uniform of a graduate nurse and the banded white cap and official pin, are Illa Lou Wilson, Jane E. Conner, Margaret R. Ferguson, Elaine L. Major and Judith Engelman.

The dairy queen of Luzerne County will be selected Saturday night at Dallas Township High School. The primary objective of selecting a queen is to dramatize the need for milk consumption according to J.H. Fulmer, county chairman of the Production and Marketing Administration for Luzerne County, which is sponsoring the contest. Fourteen girls from all parts of the county are entered in the competition and the winner will compete against the winner from nine other counties for the title of Pennsylvania Dairy Queen.
Girl Scout Troops 54 and 149 of Dallas enjoyed a paper party at the home of Mrs. Harris Haycox, Main Street, earlier this month. Tea was served to Mrs. Stanley Davies, Mrs. Peter Clark, Mrs. W.M. Williams, Mrs. Alfred Gibbs, Mrs. Jack Barnes, Mrs. Herbert Griesing, Mrs. Richard Robins, Mrs. Leonard Titus, Mrs. Thomas Kingston, Mrs. Elwood McCarthy, Mrs. Thomas Bottom, Mrs. F. Budd Schooley, Mrs. Jonah Williams, Mrs. Tibus, Mrs. Charles Mayer, Miss Caroline Kutzner.
More than 30 floats representing Back Mountain Granges, Churches, fraternal organizations, farms and business firms have been entered in the Memorial Day parade which will take place at Sweet Valley on Memorial Day afternoon, Alfred Bronson, general chairman, announced this week.
