January and February were busy months at the Back Mountain Chamber. The January BMC Luncheon was held Jan. 12 at the Irem Country Club. Our speaker was Royal Sutton, who gave his presentation of photographic portraits of Native Americans and talked about his book on the subject, “On the Edge of Extinction.”
Our Chamber Ski Club was a big hit on four successive nights in January and February. We hope to be able to offer this popular reduced price benefit to our members and their employees again next year.
On Feb. 7, we held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Crabby’s Seafood Grill at the intersection of Upper and Lower Demunds Roads in Dallas. Best of luck to Crabby’s for continued success.
The February BMC Luncheon was held Feb. 9 at Fire & Ice. The speaker was Mike Atchie from Williams, who braved the snow to be with us and gave an informative overview of the pipeline project.

Immediately following the expo, there will be a history presentation on “The Titanic and its Wyoming Valley Passengers – 105 years after the great disaster.” The main speaker will be Dr. William V. As promised last month, the Cultural Event Committee has announced its honoree for the Back to Country Event Sept. 9 at the Irem Pavilion. The committee selected the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins organization as the honoree for 2017 for all it has done for the people of the Back Mountain and Northeastern Pennsylvania. With Jake’s Rockin’ Country Band as the musical entertainment, we expect this to be another great event.
If you wish to have your community event placed on the “BMC Events Calendar” on our website, email details to wleandri@aol.com or dawnwiringer@gmail.com and we will include your event.
