FORTY FORT – How much time should children spend each day looking at screens, playing online games or using social media?
That question will be discussed when the thought-provoking and award-winning documentary called “Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age,” scheduled to be presented at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, at the Wyoming Seminary Lower School’s Amato Auditorium, 1560 Wyoming Ave.
The presentation is free and open to the public, and parents of students in middle and high school are encouraged to attend.
Following the 70-minute documentary, Seminary counselors Kathleen Carlisle and Jessica Montrella will lead a discussion of the topics presented in the film.
Award-winning filmmaker and physician Delaney Ruston used a personal approach when creating this documentary after observing how her own children were absorbed by social media. The documentary considers the struggles that many families experience in trying to deal with and balance the appeal of video games, internet addiction and social media with the requirements of school and family life. The film includes information from brain scientists, psychologists and authors on how technology affects the development of children, and how to best balance and navigate today’s digital world.
This program is presented by Sem’s Maslow STEM School and Sem’s “Raising Kids in the Digital Age” group. For more information, contact the communications office at 570-270-2192.
