Become tech-savvy at the library

First Posted: 1/13/2015

The staff at Back Mountain Memorial Library is here to help the community any way we can and, with that in mind, we are now offering “One-on-One” Computer/Device Instructions.

If you are experiencing difficulty with your Kindle Fire, I-Pad or other electronic tablet device or just simply would like someone to help you with basic computer instructions, possibly setting up e-mail or searching the Internet, call the library at 570-675-1182 to schedule a time when an instructor can assist you.

Beginning on Jan. 27, one hour appointments will be offered on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and also on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. When you call ahead to make your appointment, tell us what type of device you will be bringing with you or what specific area of computer instruction you may need.

Take advantage of this personal service soon and impress your friends (and grandchildren)with the fact that you, too, are now tech savvy

And now that more and more people are reading e-books on their devices and computers, what do you do with all of those traditional books taking up space on shelves? The library is very happy to accept these donations of slightly read books, according to the following guidelines:

We accept in good condition:

Books (hardcover and paperback, including large print)

Music CDs

Books on CDs

DVDs

We do NOT accept:

Encyclopedias

Reader’s Digest Condensed versions of books

Textbooks from any year

Magazines older than six months

Books in the following conditions:

Wet or damp

Warped pages

Damaged

Moldy with yellowed mold spores or mildewed

Donations must be in bags or boxes that may remain with the books and given directly to a staff member inside the library.

We sincerely appreciate adherence to these guidelines, as they allow us to provide the best quality books to you. For that same reason, we also ask that book donations are not placed in our outdoor bookdrop or left outside, as they become wet and damaged and the library incurs a sizable expense to dispose of them.

Along with accepting donations of your used books, the library will collect canned goods, cereal and boxed breakfast foods during the week of Jan. 19-24. These foods will be given to the Back Mountain Food Pantry and will directly benefit residents of the Back Mountain. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity.
