Regan Rome took third place in the women’s 5,000-meter run Friday afternoon at the Big East Indoor Track and Field Championships in Ohio.

The Providence College graduate student from Dallas resumed her competitive running career after missing her senior year at William & Mary because of a pelvic stress fracture.

Rome had been an All-American in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track and field while at William & Mary.

After showing steady improvement throughout her return in the fall, Rome wound up leading Providence College at the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships, placing 28th overall.

Rome posted a time of 17:07.15 Friday, almost 20 seconds behind the two lead runners, including teammate Brianna Ilarda’s first-place finish, but also almost 12 seconds ahead of the remainder of the pack.

At Dallas, Rome was an individual state silver medalist while leading a state team cross country championship among her many successes on the conference, district and state level.
