Weekend high school sports roundup: Dallas wins girls soccer showdown

Alison Francis scored two goals and assisted another Saturday when Dallas defeated Abington Heights, 4-2, in a rematch of last year’s District 2 Class 3A girls soccer championship game that the Mountaineers also won.

Both teams were unbeaten champions of their league’s highest divisions last year – Dallas in the Wyoming Valley Conference and Abington Heights in the Lackawanna League.

Francis scored the first and last goals as Dallas did all its scoring after falling behind 1-0 at halftime.

Emma Sweitzer had two assists and Olivia Delavan scored the other goal.

Katie Roberts scored twice to lead Lake-Lehman to the win in a meeting of likely WVC field hockey contenders during the Donegal Tournament.

Lake-Lehman’s Chandler Longstreth was 53rd out of 221 entries in Saturday’s Penn Track/Cross Country 10 Meet Blue Race on the Kutztown University Farm Course.

The Black Knights finished 19th out of 30 teams in a field with many of the state’s strongest programs.

Dallas swept doubles while also winning second and third singles Friday to remain unbeaten through six WVC matches.

The doubles teams of Reese Lewandowski-Elizabeth Mead and Hailey Sobocinski-Gabby Avila and singles players Morgan Landau and Caroline Stallard all won in straight sets.
