High school roundup: Dallas unbeaten in WVC golf, girls tennis

Dallas remained undefeated in the Wyoming Valley Conference in both golf and girls tennis, improving to 3-0 in each with wins Monday.

The Mountaineers defeated Coughlin, 146-172, in golf and topped Wyoming Valley West, 4-1, in girls tennis.

Logan Paczewski shot 2-under-par, 34 and all four Mountaineers who figured into the team score shot 38 or better at Wilkes-Barre Golf Club.

Brett Ostroski shot even par, 36. Ethan Zawatski and Cooper Kelly added 38s.

The Mountaineers lead WVC AAA Division 1 over Tunkhannock and Pittston Area, which are both 1-1.

Lake-Lehman won Monday’s battle of WVC AA Division 4 unbeatens at Valley Country Club to remain in sole possession of first place.

The Black Knights are 5-0 while the Preppers are 3-1 and Wyoming Seminary is 2-1.

Freshman Logan Paczewski shot 1-under-par, 35 at Irem Temple Country Club in Friday’s victory.

Brett Ostroski shot 36 while Ethan Zawatski and Cooper Kelley had 37s to bring the team in at 1-over par.

Dallas opened the WVC golf season with the Wednesday win at Irem Temple.

Brett Ostroski led the way with even-par, 36.

Logan Paczewski added a 37 and Ethan Zawatski shot 38.

Lake-Lehman wins over

Hanover Area, Meyers

Bobby Lugiano is one of the Wyoming Valley Conference’s top returning golfers and he was quick to show it when the season opened Aug. 17.

Lugiano shot a 1-under-par, 35 at Huntsville Golf Club while leading Lake-Lehman to a pair of wins in the tri-match.

The junior had the day’s lowest score by three strokes while helping the Black Knights post a four-player score of 154 to beat Hanover Area by 15 shots and Meyers by 21.

Michael Sholtis added a 38 and C.J. Cercone had a 39. Bryce Burgit and Ethan Leone each shot 42s.

GIRLS TENNIS

Dallas 4

Wyoming Valley West 1

Reese Lewandowski-Caroline Stallard and Gabby Avila-Lizzy Mead swept doubles for Dallas.

Sarah Stallard and Morgan Landou won at first and third singles.

Dallas is 3-0, behind Wyoming Seminary (4-0) and ahead of Tunkhannock (2-0) in the WVC standings.

Berwick 2

Depth carried Dallas over Berwick, which won first and second singles Friday.

Morgan Landau won, 6-0, 6-1, at third singles and the Mountaineers swept doubles with the teams of Reese Lewandowski-Caroline Stallard and Liz Mead-Gabby Avila.

Crestwood 0

Dallas lost just eight games in six sets of singles play, led by Sarah Stallard’s 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot in the Aug. 20 opener.

Rylie Bay and Morgan Landau also won singles matches.

Caroline Stallard-Reese Lewandowski won, 6-1, 6-0, at first doubles. Elisabeth Mead-Gabby Avila rallied to win second doubles in three sets.

Jenna Laughinghouse and Megan Keiser won at second and third singles for Tunkhannock Aug. 20 while Naomi Strohl-Emily Martin won at first doubles, all in straight sets.
