Carter Brunn and Sam Finarelli combined on a two-hit shutout Monday when Back Mountain National defeated Dunmore, 7-0, to win the Section 5 Little League Baseball 9-11-year-old championship.

The victory qualified Back Mountain National for the state tournament, which is scheduled to open at Bradford Regional at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Brunn, the winning pitcher, and Finarelli combined for just one strikeout, but the defense handled the other 17 outs without allowing a Dunmore run.

Zach Williams went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBi and two runs scored to lead the offense. Kyle Chesman doubled, singled and drove in a run. Chris Sholtis had two hits.

Back Mountain National went undefeated in the tournament, which was played at Jenkins Township.

Back Mountain National ripped Archbald, 16-1, July 13. It then defeated Dunmore, 11-7, in a game that started July 14, but was suspended for a day with Back Mountain National holding a 5-0 lead in the second inning.

Brunn had four hits and Finarelli added three against Archbald. Chesman and Jack Leandri added two each.

Finarelli had two doubles in the first win over Dunmore.

Brunn and Sholtis, the winning pitcher, each had two hits. Dylan Geskey and Chesman had doubles.

SECTION 5 8-10-YEAR-OLDS

Back Mountain National opened the tournament with a 15-4 romp over Green Ridge in four innings Monday.

Dominick Zangardi had a triple, double and single in the win. Will Jenkins, who pitched three innings for the win, and Brady Youngblood added a double and single. Owen Stretanski also had two hits.

DISTRICT 31 8-10-YEAR-OLDS

Winning pitcher Dominick Zangardi and Scott Egbert had three hits and scored twice each when Back Mountain National defeated Kingston/Forty Fort, 13-3, in four innings July 14 to claim the district championship.

Zangardi pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.

Owen Stretanski had a double, single and three runs scored. Andrew Chapple also scored three times.

DISTRICT 31 JUNIOR BASEBALL

Winning pitcher Jacob Seymour drove in three runs July 12 when Back Mountain completed a two-game sweep of the district championship series with an 11-6 victory over visiting Greater Wyoming Area.

The win put Back Mountain in the Section 5 tournament, which was scheduled to begin Wednesday at Hilldale.

Ben Bradley had three hits in the win. Justin Moss stole three bases and Mitch Burgess had two hits.
