Back Mountain will play for the Wyoming Valley American Legion Baseball Prep title after finishing second during the regular season, then defeating Swoyersville in a semifinal playoff series.

Nick Spencer drove in the winning run in the first game and pitched a complete game in the second when Back Mountain swept Swoyersville, 8-7 and 5-3, in a best-of-three series.

Back Mountain, which went 7-5 in the regular season, won the opener at home Monday morning, then won a rain-delayed road game Tuesday.

Cory Bean got the win in relief and Dusty Shaver worked the last inning for the save Monday.

Gary Weaver had a home run Tuesday.

The victory sent Back Mountain into the championship series, scheduled to start Saturday, against top-seeded Stripes & Strikes from Hazleton.

Back Mountain manager Bob Klinetob said summer vacations and other commitments could leave the team playing at less than full strength at times during the championship series.
