Justin Finarelli and Sam Sweitzer handled the pitching and led the offense when Back Mountain edged Tunkhannock, 6-5, in a Wyoming Valley Senior American Legion Baseball game July 5 at Misericordia University’s Tambur Field.

Back Mountain and Tunkhannock split games on consecutive days. It was part of a stretch of two wins in three days after the holiday, continuing a late-season resurgence that allowed Back Mountain to win four out of six games following a 1-8 start.

Finarelli pitched 2 2/3 hitless innings of relief, allowing just one run, to earn the save. He helped put Back Mountain ahead with a two-run double to highlight a five-run second inning.

Winning pitcher Sweitzer and Jake Wesley each had three hits. Sweitzer had an RBI single in the second and also scored. Wesley was 3-for-3.

Kyle Hromisin and Matt Mathers also had RBI singles in the second. Hromisin finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Billy Dziak was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to lead Tunkhannock. Mike Astegher singled and scored twice.

Tunkhannock came back with a 7-1 win the next day when Tyler Faux limited Back Mountain to one hit over six innings.

Matt Goodwin was 3-for-4 with a double in the win.

Josh Holdredge drove in the only Back Mountain win.
