The women’s athletic teams at Misericordia University are enjoying a successful fall.

Misericordia women captured the Middle Atlantic Conference title in cross country, tied for first in the regular season in field hockey and reached the championship game in women’s soccer.

The field hockey and women’s soccer teams were continuing in MAC playoff action this week.

Clare Schoen finished as runner-up Oct. 28 at Delaware Valley when Misericordia put five runners in the top 20 of the 17-team race to win its third MAC cross country title in four years.

The field hockey team defeated Marywood University, 2-0, the same day to finish the regular season on a seven-game winning streak. Misericordia went 6-1 in the MAC Freedom League to land the second seed and a home field when the playoffs started Wednesday night.

The soccer team reached the championship match, which was scheduled for Saturday, with a Tuesday playoff win, 2-0, over DeSales University. It was the 10th shutout for the 13-4-2 team.

The volleyball team, the only Misericordia women’s fall team that did not have a winning record, finished up with a win for an overall mark of 14-17.

REDSHIRT FOR ROME

All-American distance runner Regan Rome has decided to redshirt her senior cross country season at William & Mary.

William & Mary’s website had twice speculated on Rome’s return for specific races this fall, but the Dallas graduate had yet to compete while dealing with injuries.

Rome, an individual state silver medalist and the leader of a state team championship while at Dallas, was Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year as a freshman at William & Mary.

She finished 25th at the NCAA Division I national championships as a sophomore in 2015, the first of her two straight seasons as CAA Athlete of the Year for women’s cross country.

The mathematics major is on the indoor track team in the winter and the outdoor track team in the spring.
