Dallas and Tunkhannock each went 9-4 to finish tied for third out of 10 teams in the Wyoming Valley Conference Class 2A Division, landing berths in the District 2 Class 2A quarterfinals.

Both teams lost their first district matches on the road against higher-seeded teams and were eliminated Oct 5.

Fifth-seeded Dallas lost at fourth-seeded Holy Cross, 4-1, while sixth-seeded Tunkhannock fell at third-seeded Wyoming Seminary, 5-0.

District 2 is scheduled to complete its tennis postseason with the doubles tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at Kirby Park. The first three rounds will be played Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m. Semifinalists return Wednesday at 1 p.m.

The district was scheduled to conduct its singles tournament Thursday and Friday. Hannah Bonk from Dallas landed a sixth seed for the event.

TEAM GOLF

Back Mountain residents Kenny Wallace and Connor Maloney occupied two of the five spots in the Holy Reedeemer lineup Monday when the Royals fell to Scranton Prep, 320-326, in the District 2 Class 2A team golf championship match at Fox Hill Country Club.

Wallace was one of the four scores that counted – out of five players – for Holy Redeemer with an 84. Maloney shot 89.

UPCOMING

District 2 has set the schedules for its remaining championships.

Open boys and girls soccer tournaments will be held over four classes from Oct. 23-Nov. 2.

Higher seeds will host games in all rounds.

Lake-Lehman leads the race for top seed in Class 2A girls, Dallas is tied for the lead in Class 3A boys and Dallas is in strong contention for the top spot in Class 3A girls.

Football playoffs start Nov. 3.

Dallas went into the weekend in second place in the 11-team race for eight playoff berths, four quarterfinal home fields and two potential semifinal home fields. Tunkhannock was 10th.

Lake-Lehman ranked third of eight teams trying to land four spots and two semifinal home fields in Class 2A.

The cross country championships are Oct. 25 at Lakeland.

Back Mountain teams compete in Class 2A, which is scheduled for a 12:40 p.m. girls start and 1:20 p.m. boys start.

Field hockey has quarterfinals scheduled for Oct. 23-24, semifinals for Oct. 25-26 and finals for Oct. 31.

Girls volleyball has both the District 2 Class 2A tournament and District 2-4 Subregional scheduled for Oct. 30 quarterfinals, Oct. 31 semifinals and Nov. 2 finals.
