The Royals recorded a decisive sweep, beating the Mountaineers 25-5, 25-10, 25-8.

Dallas was topped by Caitlyn Pike (four assists, one dig, one service point), Emily Pellam (four digs, two service points), Shelby Carr (two kills, two blocks) and Gianna Musto (three kills, three digs).

Lake-Lehman 1

Brian Kotz scored a pair of second-half goals to rally the Trojans past the Black Knights. The first came on a penalty kick in the 50th minute and the winner came just two minutes later off an assist from Zack Cardone.

Kyle Sincavage opened the scoring for Lehman.

Monday, Oct. 17

GOLF

Dallas’ Mason Gattuso (Class 3A boys) gave it his best effort at the East Regional Tournament at Golden Oaks Golf Club in Fleetwood on Monday, but finished short of his goals of reaching the state tournament.

Gattuso, who won the District 2 Class 3A title last week and was playing in his first regional tournament as a junior, got off to a slow start and couldn’t recover.

The Mountaineer shot a 47 on the front nine, which was 11 over par. He rebounded to score a very respectable 39 on the back nine, but it was a little too late to advance. His score of 86 was still 10 strokes behind the No. 24 golfer, which was the last qualifying spot for states.

Dallas 7,

Tunkhannock 1

Dallas exploded for five second-half goals to clinch the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 title after beating Tunkhannock, 7-1, in a girls soccer game on Monday.

Samantha Mazula scored four goals, three on penalty kicks, and assisted on two others. Alison Francis had two goals while Rachel Nelligan made four saves in the win.

Wyoming Area 0

Mackenzie Love’s hat trick led the way as the Black Knights topped Wyoming Area.

Amanda Ayers had two goals and one assist, while Kyra Apaliski finished with a goal and an assist.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lackawanna Trail 1

Lynea Gregory used timely assists to set up two goals in a six-minute span midway through the second half Monday and the Black Knights moved to the brink of a Wyoming Valley Conference title with a gritty 2-1 comeback victory over Lackawanna Trail.

Lake-Lehman 1

After dropping its first match 20-25, Berwick responded by taking the next three matches 25-9, 25-20, 25-21 for the win victory Lake-Lehman in girls volleyball action on Monday.

Lake-Lehman’s Devin Lindley had six kills, seven digs and two aces, Ashley Herces had 11 assists and eight digs and

Hailey Kubishi finished with eight kills and six digs.

Saturday, Oct. 15

FOOTBALL

Lake-Lehman 38,

Holy Redeemer 3

The Black Knights scored 38 unanswered points and rolled up almost 400 yards of offense as Lehman cruised to a 38-3, mercy-rule victory over Holy Redeemer at Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium.

Lehman scored on five of its first six drives in the first half. It started with a 30-yard field goal by Ian Dawsey to knot the game at 3-3 in the first quarter, and continued to build from there.

An 11-play drive following a Jake Tomolonis interception that led to a Vincenzo Ferrari 4-yard quarterback sneak for the score.

Lehman showed a nice mix with 197 rushing and 189 passing yards.

Friday, Oct. 14

FOOTBALL

Wyoming Area 42,

Dallas 10

Dallas had a 3-0 lead after one quarter and had the time of possession advantage through halftime.

Dallas outgained Wyoming Area in the first half, but a muffed punt and a potential interception that was dropped in Warriors territory kept the Mountaineers from taking advantage.

Dallas took the opening kickoff and drove 50 yards in 12 plays. Freshman quarterback Michael Starbuck hit two passes to convert third-and-nine situations and set up a 29-yard field goal by Nathan Maransky.

The Mountaineers then forced a three-and-out, only to muff the punt.

After Starbuck scored on a 5-yard run for Dallas, Donovan O’Boyle added a 6-yarder for Wyoming Area to close the scoring.

BOYS SOCCER

Lake-Lehman 2,

Wyoming Seminary 2

Michael Kim scored on a penalty kick in the 74th minute Friday as Wyoming Seminary rallied to a 2-2 tie with Lake-Lehman in a boys soccer game.

Sem took a quick lead when Edge Miller scored in the eighth minute of the game.

But the Black Knights tied the game five minutes from halftime when Ian Dawsey hit a goal. Three minutes into the second half, Clovis de Luz took a feed from Justin Timonte and scored a goal that gave Lehman a 2-1 lead.

Chris Ash stopped 11 shots in goal for Lehman, while Wyoming Seminary’s Ryan Anderson made four saves in the tie.

Thursday, Oct. 13

GIRLS SOCCER

Dallas 2,

Coughlin 1

Alison Francis and Samantha Mazula each picked up a goal for Dallas as the Mountaineers held off Coughlin. Skyler Panattieri cut the lead to 2-1 for the Crusaders early in the second half.

Wednesday, Oct. 12

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Hanover Area 0

Gianna Musto had a team-high eight kills as Dallas won 25-21, 25-17, 25-15.

Caitlyn Pike added 13 assists and seven service points. Megan Sebastianelli had 12 digs and 11 points. Jess Kus had 12 points.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lake-Lehman 5,

Hazleton Area 0

Carey-Anne Keiper hit a hat trick, scoring Lake-Lehman’s first three goals by the midway point of the first half and the Black Knights remained at the top of the WVC Division 1 standings by improving to 10-0-1.

Makayla Adams polished off the victory with two goals in the second half, while Alicia Galasso made four saves in goal in the shutout.
