The month of July seemed to be filled with days of either soaring temperatures or torrential downpours. I refuse to complain about the heat, but I hope we all get a well-deserved break from the heavy rain in August.

The Back Mountain Memorial Library Farmers Market kicked off its season July 14, and is now located at the Dallas High School. If you haven’t enjoyed this local treasure yet this year, you still have plenty of opportunities to do so from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until Oct. 13. This year the farmers market has 20 venders offering not only fresh local produce, but also items such as bread, honey and other locally sourced specialty foods that are sure to please.

Dallas Township and State Representative Karen Boback will host an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 at the new Dallas Township Administration Building at 105 Lt. Michael Cleary Drive in Dallas. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. to commemorate both the grand opening of the new Dallas Township Administration Building as well as the recently relocated office of Representative Boback. Back Mountain Chamber members and the general public are invited to attend.

The BMC will host a mixer from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 at Grotto Pizza in Harveys Lake. The price is $15 for Back Mountain Chamber members and $20 for non-members. Pizza, hor d’oevres and soft drinks will be served, and a cash bar will be available. I hope you can join us for this end-of-summer celebration.

It’s hard to believe it’s only a month until our Back to Motown Event. Every year, our Cultural Events Committee does an outstanding job preparing for this event, and this year is no exception. We will enjoy a true Motown experience on Friday, Aug. 31 at the Beaumont Inn’s Grande Pavilion with musical entertainment provided by the Esteem Allstars from New York and New Jersey.

At this year’s event, we will honor the Hanson Family and Hanson Amusement Park, and proceeds from our basket raffle will benefit the Back Mountain Regional EMS. If you don’t have your tickets yet, you better act fast. The website is completely sold out and the only remaining tickets are available at Gallery of Sound.

Thank you to all our event sponsors, which include Ross Spengler, major event sponsor; The Citizens’ Voice, print media sponsor; Lamar, billboard media sponsor; Philadelphia Hand and Shoulder Center, pavilion sponsor; UGI Energy Services/Penn East Pipeline, stage sponsor; International Security & Training Assoc., table decorations; and AMP Global Strategies, dance floor sponsor.
