DALLAS — Nancy Rehm, of Dallas, will showcase her display titled “Leaves, Light and Water: Seasonal Views of Back Mountain” at the Back Mountain Memorial Library during the month of August.

Working mainly with oil pastels, Rehm describes what she does as “sophisticated finger-painting.” She draws with the pastels and uses her fingers to blend them on the paper. Rehm has been creating art her whole life and has worked with many different types of media including watercolor, oil paint, and fresco, but pastel is her preferred medium.

She studied art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, at Tufts University and stumbled upon the Sennelier brand of oil pastels a few years ago, falling in love with them immediately. She prefers the tactile sensation of working directly with the materials rather than using a brush.

Rehm states that after she moved to Dallas, she discovered Frances Slocum State Park and started visiting almost every day. She would take photos of trees, leaves and the lake as references for her work to capture the feel of the different seasons over the year. Her art can be purchased directly via her Facebook page – Nancy Rehm @artrehm.

Of her work, Rehm states, “My project is to make ordinary natural scenes and objects look magical and inviting, to entice the viewer into spending time in the little world inside the frame.”
