Severe thunderstorms with gusty winds could impact the Wyoming Valley into this evening.

According to a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service, potentially severe thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of a strong cold front this afternoon and into this evening.

Damaging winds are expected to be the primary threat from the storms, but isolated tornadoes will also be possible. Storms may also contain heavy rain, which could cause localized urban and small stream flooding.

The main period when the storms are likely is 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. west of Interstate 81, and 6 p.m. to midnight east of Interstate 81.

No watches or warnings have been issued for Luzerne County.
