The Back Mountain Chamber (BMC) held its Fourth Annual BMC Economic Summit Breakfast in October. It featured a speaker from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. The presentation was a comprehensive review of the economy, similar to the recent report given to Congress, and provided critical financial information for senior corporate managers as well as small businesses. The event was held at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus. We would like to give a big thanks to our corporate sponsors of the event: FNCB Bank, Twin Stacks Realty, Penn State Wilkes Barre, and Motorworld. We would also thank the members of our Economic Development Committee for providing another fine business service to our members and the community.

Our “Community Involvement Event,” featuring the Gertrude Hawk Christmas Candy online ordering project to provide monies for Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge, concluded in October, and it was a success. A check from the event’s proceeds will be presented to Blue Chip to offset their operational expenses as the organization continues to help local displaced animals throughout our community. The BMC is proud to be able to provide help our furry friends, with the goal to find good homes for every animal.

November is also the time when the BMC executive committee solicits names of members interested in serving on the BMC board of directors for the coming year. Nominations can be sent to Executive Director Bill Leandri at wleandri@aol.com if anyone is interested in nominating a board member.

Future events

The BMC is in the planning stages of several events for the up and coming months. Our November luncheon will be held at Irem Temple Country Club on Thursday, Nov. 17 and attorney Tom Mosca will speak about human trafficking and its effect on our community. Reservations for the event can be sent to Carl Goeringer, luncheon chairperson, at cgoer51@aol.com or by calling the BMC office at 570-675-9380.

Plans are being completed for the annual BMC Member Christmas Year-End Celebration following its board meeting in December. Members should watch for further details.

Plans are also underway for our annual Mardi Gras Awards Dinner. Nominations for this year’s awards should be forwarded to Bill Leandri at wleandri@aol.com.
