Kirsten Finarelli went 3-for-3 with a double Sunday to lead Back Mountain to a 10-4 victory over Wallenpaupack for the Section 5 Major Little League Softball title.

Abby Cruz and Carolyn Comitz went 2-for-3. Sophia Meyer added a triple.

Nina Barrouk struck out four in the win.

The section title and state tournament appearance adds to the three District 31 titles – Major, 10-11-year-olds and 8-10-year-olds – won by Back Mountain National in baseball.

STATE MAJOR SOFTBALL

Back Mountain split its first two games in the state tournament at the Plymouth Meeting Little League.

Back Mountain opened Tuesday with a 5-1 win over Washington/Warrick before falling to South Williamsport, 10-0, Wednesday.

Six teams remain alive from the original eight-team state bracket. Back Mountain is scheduled to face Indiana Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in an elimination game.

Winning pitcher Nina Barrouk went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple in the win over Warrington/Warrick.

Carolyn Comitz had a double. Hannah Chipego and Amber Zimmerman also had hits.

SECTION 5 8-10-YEAR-OLD SOFTBALL

Caitlyn Mizzer drove in four runs with two hits Wednesday to lead Back Mountain past Wallenpaupack, 9-6.

Emma Fostock, who had a triple, and Lia Riley had two hits each.

Lexi Berecin and Olivia Oliver, who got the win, handled the pitching duties.

DISTRICT 31 10-11-YEAR-OLD BASEBALL

Back Mountain National won the district title Sunday with a 5-3 victory over Greater Wyoming Area.

GWA led 3-1 after 3 ½ innings before BMN rallied.

Andrew Chapple, Will Jenkins, Brady Youngblood and Bobby Gregor had hits and Alex Seymore added a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-3 lead.

Gregor had a hit to drive in another run in the fifth.

DISTRICT 31 8-10-YEAR-OLD BASEBALL

Luca Pietraccini had two hits, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead Back Mountain National to an 11-4 victory over Greater Wyoming Area in Sunday’s championship game.

Jim Youngblood, Chase Aten and Pat Flanagan had two hits each to lead BMN.

Youngblood also drove in two runs while Aten scored twice. Flanagan had a run and an RBI.

Owen Weilgosz allowed four hits and struck out three in 4 1/3 innings to earn the win.

DISTRICT 31 JUNIOR BASEBALL

Matt Little singled in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Greater Wyoming Area to an 8-7 win over Back Mountain in a District 31 game Wednesday.

Andrew Buckholtz was 2-for-2 to lead Back Mountain.

It was the second long, one-run game between the two teams.

Their Friday game was suspended Friday in a 12-12 tie in the sixth inning.

Back Mountain pulled out a 15-14 win in the completion of the game Saturday.

Liam Hite drove in the game-winning run.

Tyler Casey, Logan Sakulich, John Matlock and Hite all had multiple hits.

SECTION 5 MAJOR BASEBALL

North Pocono will host the tournament, which begins Saturday.

Back Mountain National will play Throop at 3 p.m.

Greater Pittston Area plays North Pocono at 1 in the opener of the four-team, double-elimination event.
