Verizon Wireless customers lost service Sunday night due to what a spokesman said was a rare failure on two separate lines.

“It was caused by the rare occurrence of a dual fiber ring failure – two separate fiber issues on different lines – impacting the redundancy built into our network that ensures service despite equipment failures,” David Weissmann, Verizon Wireless’s public relations manager for the northeast market, said in an email on Monday.

Engineers were able to restore most services before 11 p.m. Sunday and by 10 a.m. Monday morning all service was restored, according to Weissman.
