DALLAS — The Back Mountain Memorial Library, 96 Huntsville Road, announces the following events:
For a first-hand account of growing up in Iran, come to the author’s presentation of “A Checkerboard of Nights and Days” by Irandukht Fahmy, who talks about her recently-released memoir at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27. Fahmy will discuss her childhood in Iran, with its beauty and tragedies, to her arrival in America speaking little English, to her intimate view of the experiences of an immigrant. This is an account of an interesting life. Call the library at 570-675-1182 to reserve your place.
The 72nd annual Back Mountain Memorial Library Auction will offer a great place for meeting friends, eating great food, shopping the booths, and bidding on both antiques and new goods. Join us for four nights from Thursday, July 5, and wrapping up Sunday, July 8.
Children’s entertainment at the auction starts with Family Night on Friday, July 6, with juggling from 6 to 7 p.m. and P.J. Reptiles from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. On Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m., check out Endless Dream Animals, which will delight the whole family. At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, try reading to Therapy Dogs; they make great listeners. Come on Sunday, July 8 to learn Balloon Sculpture from 6 to 7 p.m. and make a fun mess with Slime Time from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Auction guests are encouraged to park at Thomas’ Market at the Country Club Shopping Center off Route 309 in Dallas Township and take the shuttle bus for a trouble-free ride to the library grounds. We have a fully-accessible handicapped van available for auction-goers who may need it, which will also board at Thomas’ Market. Or take advantage of side-street parking near the library.
Also at the auction, booths featuring plants, raffle baskets, jewelry, vintage linens and china, artisans’ goods, toys, DVDs, music, decorative items, and, of course, books will be open for shopping. Food vendors ensure no one will leave hungry. Don’t miss this high point of the summer season. Booths open at 4 p.m. and bidding starts at 6 p.m. each day of the auction.
News and Notices:
The library will be closed Wednesday, July 4. We will re-open July 5 but, due to the auction, will close at 12:30 p.m. July 5, 6, and 7.
